Thanks to its compact layout, the apothecary garden features common medicinal plants such as bitter wormwood, motherwort, marigold, valerian and melissa. You may also see lemon monarda, canupera or balsam fir at the site.
Elena Malankina, Professor of the Department of Vegeculture, Eugenia Zuikova's scientific supervisor, notes that these aromatic plants contain unusual essential oils: "For example, canuper has been known since Ancient Rome and was used to make 'balsamic oil', as a seasoning for cheese, pickles. As a medicinal plant, it can improve digestion in this era of "snacks and on fast food on the go". Lemon monarda is a wonderful ingredient for flavoring black or green tea, as well as traditional Russian cold drinks - compote, kvass. In addition, its essential oil has a strong antimicrobial effect, which is so important in the season of colds.
Next year Eugenia Zuikova is going to double the size of the plot of apothecary vegetable garden. Its collection will be enriched with Baikal shlemnik, evasive peony, purple foxglove, woolly foxglove and some others.
